The diffusion of glutaraldehyde from zinc oxide-eugenol cement.

چکیده
The diffusion of glutaraldehyde from zinc oxide and eugenol cement (ZOE) into water was measured. The egress was found to be substantial and correlated to the amount of glutaraldehyde which was incorporated initially. The percentages of the fixative which diffused from the ZOE preparations containing 2,5, or 10% glutaraldehyde were virtually identical, demonstrating that there is no restriction of movement imposed by the matrix of the ce~nent. The results suggest that ZOE might be used as a vehicle to introduce glutaraldehyde to the radicular pulp of a pulpotomized primary tooth. hyde. ~°,11 We believe that ZOE with incorporated glutaraldehyde might serve as an excellent vehicle to introduce the fixative to the tissue, even to the extent that pretreatment with the cotton pellet might be obviated. This study was initiated to determine whether glutaraldehyde has the same diffusibility from ZOE as has been reported for formaldehyde17 and cresol ~a and whether, therefore, the delivery of glutaraldehyde by the base has potential as a treatment modality.

Statement of Problem: Zinc contained cements are so important among dental material as they have many indications and used in different ways therefore evaluation of their physical properties is so important in dentistry.Purpose: The purpose of this research was to measure some physical properties of zinc-contained cements used in restorative dentistry. These cements included: Zinc oxide-eugenol...
متن کاملMicrobial leakage of MTA, Portland cement, Sealapex and zinc oxide-eugenol as root-end filling materials.
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare the microbial leakage of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), Portland cement (PC), Sealapex and zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) as root-end filling materials. STUDY DESIGN An in vitro microbial leakage test (MLT) with a split chamber was used in this study. A mixture of facultative bacteria and one yeast (S. aureus+E. faecalis+P. aeruginosa+B. subtilis+C....

Effects of oral environment stabilization procedures on counts of Candida spp. in children.
The effects of oral environment stabilization procedures on counts of Candida spp. have rarely been discussed, and no conclusive results are found in the literature. The aim of this study was thus to ascertain the effects of oral environment stabilization procedures with glass ionomer and zinc oxide-eugenol cements on counts of Candida spp. in the oral cavity of children. For this purpose, oral...
متن کاملAntiproliferative effect of mineral trioxide aggregate, zinc oxide-eugenol cement, and glass-ionomer cement against three fibroblastic cell lines.
An important requirement for dental materials placed in direct contact with living tissues is biocompatibility. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antiproliferative activity of three dental materials (mineral trioxide aggregate, zinc oxide-eugenol cement, and glass-ionomer cement) against a panel of established fibroblastic cell lines (L929, BHK21/C13, and RPC-C2A). The materials wer...
